Citing major influences Alfred and Mel Bay, the guitar and banjo have played key roles in Tom's life. Other influences range far and wide and include Dickey Betts, Steve Howe, Duane Allman, George Harrison, Brad Paisley, Earl Scruggs, Tony Trischka, and Bela Fleck.

Tom has performed and recorded with the following bands and groups: Discovery, High Strung String Band, Larkspur, Attention Deficit String Band, Geo and the Komrades, Acoustic String Theory, and now The Boothill Band. Tom also has guitar and banjo credits in support of several stage productions.

and a variety of other processors and effects.
